Rose Engine Turned Box |
|
By repute, this ivory, rose turned box was made by a carpenter from HMS Amazon. It is highly unlikely that he would have such equipment on board ship and so perhaps he made it in his retirement. It is very well made and illustrates the high decoration a good turner can achieve with a rose engine. It is decorated to all its surfaces, except the interior sides, with a different pattern. A fine box. Early to mid 19th century. We are very happy to email full condition reports upon request. H 1 1/4 W 3 D 3 |
