Colonel Kemp’s Bureau |
|
This fall front mahogany bureau, which sits on a stand with square tapered legs, has a fitted interior with pigeonholes and 4 drawers. For ease of transport the bureau section lifts off its stand. Its marked with a deep ‘Colonel Kemp’ stamp to the back of both sections and although little is known of the Colonel it does highlight that the desk was made for military purposes. Although simple in its design and construction it would be a useful piece of furniture to an officer. Circa 1780. |
