Military Chest in burr walnut

This campaign chest is made of straight grained walnut to the top and sides with burr walnut veneers to the drawer fronts. This use of walnut veneers marks the quality of the chest and makes for a very good looking piece of furniture. The drawer configuration of four short over 3 long drawers is also unusual but is known to be a design favoured by Ross of Dublin. Although not marked with a maker’s name, this coupled with Ross’s frequent use of walnut suggests that it might have been made by the Irish company. Mid to late 19th Century.
