| Rosewood Oval Mirror. This oval campaign mirror stands out for its quality and the timbers used. The mirror casing is rosewood with stringing decoration but the interior side with the magnifying glass is lined in satinwood to not only add to the decoration but to increase its thickness, making it more sturdy. As you would expect, there is a hanging ring but it also serves to lock the mirror when closed by screwing in its bolt, which hold the two barbed teeth to the other section. An unusual variant of this standard design. Early 19th century. Size as shown is given. |
