Large Cavalry Box |
|
Similar in design to the previous box, this one could be considered over sized and difficult to fit into a saddle bag. It is made of rosewood and cut out of the solid. The contents have all been lost, except the brass framed mirror. It is well made with a rosewood back and has a lectern foot with a stay bar to ensure it remains standing. To the top it has a hinged loop to hang it. It is possible that some of the internal dividers have been removed but its difficult to be sure. The front divider would have taken three round jars and there are corresponding cutouts to the box lid. The folded mirror is housed in the lid and there are signs that a razor strop as well as other items would have fitted underneath it, to the lid interior. The lock shows the box to be French and its size makes it uncommon. Mid 9th century. We are very happy to email full condition reports upon request.
