Campaign Dressing Table Mirror |
|
To look at this William IV mahogany mirror you would be forgiven for not realising that it came apart. When the mirror is removed from its swing fittings, the columns can be unbolted from the stand. The stand has a narrow drawer set into the moulding. The brass ball and socket fittings to hold the mirror are stamped ‘Cope & Austin’, who were listed under Brass Founders in the 1835 Pigot’s Directory of Warwickshire as ‘Cope & Austin (military and cabinet), 40 Fleet St’, Birmingham. The mirror is veneered in a good flame mahogany and this together with the brassware used is perhaps a good sign of its quality. The mirror can be considered particularly tall for its type. Circa 1840. |
