Portable Dressing Chest

The design and proportions of this huangli wood China Trade Dressing Chest are unusual but practical as both a travelling and domestic piece of furniture. As a chest it is very upright and the two folding leaves to the top, rest on iron sliding lopers to give a working area with a divided central well. The top opening drawer has a lift out tray that hides a bank of 6 drawers. The chest has little by way of excess decoration or protruding edges, which fits in with its portable use. The fact that it doesn’t divide in two like most campaign chests reflects its age and country of manufacture.
