Antique Folding Chairs |
|
These two mahogany folding armchairs are well made and enhanced with simple decoration such as chamfering to the legs etc. and scrolls to terminate the arms. When the X frame legs are closed the back and arms will fall forward to fold against them. When set up the back is locked in position by 2 strong brass catches. These chairs are sturdier and better made than many of their period and can be considered more than just garden or occasional extra chairs. The green leather seat is slung and the back has an upholstered pad to provide a little extra comfort. The number 2496 is stamped to the back stretcher on both chairs with one chair also having a separated 5. The Army & Navy CSL were fond of numbering their articles with a 4 digit code and this may point to them retailing the chairs. Late 19th Century. |
