Antique Portable Military Bookcase

This teak book cabinet has brass corners and two carrying handles to the front. The doors are glazed and the cabinet has 3 shelves to each side. They are adjustable to several positions and each has a tooled leather fringe to stop dust settling on the top of the books. Such bookcases were made to either sit on top of a campaign chest or could be used on the floor. As can been seen it folds in half to make a box for travel with the two doors facing each other to protect the glass. Although unmarked, the Army & Navy Store made a very similar bookcase to the exact same size with the leather fringe. Late 19^th Century.
