Antique Portable Treen Candlestick |

As can be seen, this turned mahogany candlestick is made to come apart into 4 pieces for ease of travel. The lack of any remnants of glue, the use of both socket and screw fixings and the number of parts it breaks into indicate that this was intentional as opposed to purely for ease of construction. The turning is good and sharp and although travelling treen candlesticks are not unheard of they are usually designed to be more compact in size. This portable candlestick follows the design and height of a domestic candlestick and is uncommon for it. Early to mid 19th Century. |
