Antique Portable Patent Candleholder |

Made of brass, this small patent candleholder is very simple in design. The candle holder has a number of teeth which grip the candle in place. This has a hinged sleeve case which is shaped to the candle and protects it during travel. The pin to the hinge extends to join the case to the candle holder. For use, the case would be opened to the desired angle and would act as a reflector and shield for the candle. Patent is stamped to the underside of the holder but whether protection of the design was actually made or the word was used as a deterrent we do not know. Late 19th Century.
