Antique Campaign Upright Book Cabinet

This mahogany book cabinet is a little different to most in that the height is increased rather than the width when in use. The majority of such cabinets were intended to sit on a campaign chest. It can be seen by the shelves that it was always meant to open this way. The shelves are adjustable to a number of different heights and are faced with a rounded moulding. When closed the cabinet has 2 lugs to help locate the sides to each other. An unusual variant on the portable bookcase. Mid to late 19th Century.
