Antique Ship’s Campaign Table |
|
Known as a Ship Table, this mahogany Pembroke is dual purpose. The middle section of the top lifts up to reveal fittings for a wash bowl and 2 lift out metal dishes with 2 lidded compartments to the side. The front one has a removable tray with adjustable dividers and a well below and the back one is plain but not as deep. Both are lined with blue sugar paper. Other examples of Ship Tables have also been fitted with a mirror but this one was not. However, it does vary to others in that the top can be held as a lectern board and set at one of 12 positions. With the top down, the table flaps will lift and each rest on a pair of lopers to extend the size. The other side has a simple drawer with flush handle. Fulfilling a number of functions, this table would be useful both on board ship, where space is restricted and to an army officer. Mid 19th Century. Full size is given. We are very happy to email or fax full condition reports upon request. |
