Antique Campaign Stool |
|
The design of this walnut campaign stool is simple yet considered. It folds on the basic principle of having X rame legs. However, one pair are shorter in length to allow them to fit within the other pair when folded thus ensuring that the stool is reduced to its minimum width which is the thickness of the timber of the leg. This consideration along with the brass straps to the top of the legs for added strength suggests that it was meant for travel rather than domestic use. The seat is made of good leather hide and the joints are through tenons. The antique period is mid 19th Century.
