We have illustrated a number of ‘Naval campaign Chairs’ before but all have been 18th Century excepting the Art Deco set. This mahogany chair is an exception and shows that the design was still in use well into the 19th Century. As can be seen, the caned seat lifts up against the back and the legs are hinged so the front ones concertina flat against the back legs. Although the height and width of the chair remain the same, the depth is greatly reduced in a quick and easy movement, making the design suitable for naval use where speed of clearing the decks for the guns is an important factor.
