This leather cased, steel Horse Collar Hook was a portable means of hanging harness etc. The large hook has two rings which would be fitted to a vertical rope or chain in a temporary tack room or stable. The hide case is stamped to the front A. Collins & Sons, 72 Portland Place North, Clapham Road, London. The back is stamped Collin’s Patent Horse Collar Hook For Bail Chains. The hook is also marked with this information along with the patent no. 67883. This would be useful item of kit to anyone who travelled with horses. Circa 1900.
