Brig J. Sykes-Wright’s Boomerang

Brig J. Sykes-Wright’s Boomerang

The sterling silver plague to this Boomerang notes that it was presented to ‘Brig J. Sykes-Wright by The City of Newcastle Regiment’. Sykes-Wright was born in 1908 and joined the Queen’s Royal Surrey Regiment as a Lieutenant in 1929. He had a distinguished service eventually becoming  Adviser to the UK High Commissioner in Canada before retiring in 1960. The Queen’s Royal Surrey Regiment had an alliance with the Australian Newcastle Regiment and it is probable that this boomerang was presented to Sykes-Wright in the 1950’s although it is probably older.
