A brass bound padouk, two part Military Chest.

It is probable that this chest is Anglo Indian but there are some features such as the scribed cock beading to the drawers, the handles and the steel screws to the brass strap work that also point towards it being English. This may mean that it was made in an English workshop in India or with an English foreman overseeing the work.

The chest has iron carrying handles to the sides. The brass straps to the top front corners of the chest stand out as being a slightly unusual form to the normal, wider brass corner caps that sit mostly to the top of the chest. The chest also has iron straps, to add strength, to the back. These are located where they are not going to be seen, where the two halves meet and to the base of the bottom half. The chest sits on removable bun feet. ( threads replaced)

The chest is a little smaller in its width than most and the padouk has a rich, deep colour with lighter patches around the handles where they have been cleaned. Mid 19th Century.
