Small Bracket Shelf SOLD

£225

A small Bracket Shelf made to fold.

SOLD

It was quite common for folding shelves like these to be use on board ship as they can be a space saver when not in use. The shelf is fitted to the back board by two iron hinges and is held in the horizontal position by a shaped swing support. The support is fitted to the top and bottom by a pin, allowing it to swing out or fold flat against the back board when not in use. The back board has two holes to fix it to a bulkhead or wall.

Although there is not much room or need for decoration on this simple shelf, the backboard and swing support have a pleasing serpentine shape. A useful item both on board ship or in the home. Mid to late 19th Century.

Size for use is given.
