A mahogany Pedestal Desk made to dismantle.
The fiddle or gallery would suggest that they were made for use on board ship and indeed the photograph illustrated in British Campaign Furniture by Brawer of the Captain's cabin on the Powerful, circa 1898 shows a very similar desk. The desk dismantles as you would expect; the fiddle lifts off and folds to fit inside the top drawer, the top section then lifts off, leaving the two pedestals which have removable feet. The drawer of the top is actually a single although it is made to appear like three. Part of the reason for the full length size is so that it will hold the fiddle during travel but no doubt a drawer of such size would also be more practical for charts and maps. The leather to the top is a later replacement and the desk probably originally had an oil cloth. All the locks, apart from the bottom two are marked '1914 Two Lever Lock', the bottom two are marked 'Warranted Four Lever'. It's possible the 1914 is an indicator of either date or model number. Early 20th century.
