Large Crocodile Hip Flask by James Dixon & Sons

A good sized crocodile, nickel silver and glass Hip Flask by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield.

The flask takes 3/4 of a pint of liquid and is fitted with a bayonet fitting to the hinged lid. The flask is marked to one side of the neck with JD&S in a cartouche and on the other side with Dixon's trumpet and banner trademark. The underside of the removable cup, which has a gilt wash to the interior, is also marked JD&S with the Dixon logo and the size number 7.

Although Dixons made a wide range of goods in silver, plate and Britannia metal they were market leaders in their production of flasks and are known for the quality of their work. Circa 1900.
