Pair of Painted Wooden Indian Figures
Pair of Painted Wooden Indian Figures
82457
A pair of decorative, carved, polychrome wooden Indian Figures.
Its likely that the figures were brought back to Britain as souvenirs in the 19th century. The East India Company fuelled the desire for paintings and figures by travellers by setting up their own workshops to meet the demand.
This pair of figures are well carved and neatly painted even down to the man's moustache. It is probable that he originally held something in his right hand which has long since been lost. Late 19th Century.
