Made of mahogany with brass corners, this Book Cabinet has panelled doors to the interior to contain the contents during travel.
Many book cabinets were intended to be sat on top of a campaign chest although they could of course also be used on the floor. This cabinet has three adjustable shelves to each side which sit on lugs that can moved to a number of different heights, depending on the size of the books. It will fold, like a book, with the 2 sides meeting each other to form a box for travel.
This is a good example having both doors and brass strap work. Early to mid 19th Century.
