A set of teak and brass Victorian Campaign Shelves.

The teak has a dark colour to the grain which looks good against the brass standards that separate the shelves. To dismantle them for travel, the brass finials to the top shelf are unscrewed and removed. The top shelf can then be lifted off and the brass standards unscrewed from those below them. The bottom four standards are screwed into brass cup feet.

A number of companies sold this type of campaign shelf but the 4 digit number of 8220 suggests that they might have been made by the Army & Navy CSL. The number is stamped to the underside of each shelf along with the separate number 10.

This set is a little narrower than most in width. It was sold with out a cresting rail but with cup feet. They can be found with both, with one or the other or with neither. They were also made with mahogany boards. Late 19th Century.
