Low Round Leather Case.
The case is well made, using thick leather hide and lined in a woollen cloth to cushion the contents. It has a leather hinge to the back and a tab to the front with a popper button to secure the two halves. The top and bottom have a tooled circular line set one inch in and following the box's edge. It has the initials 'M.E.J.' stamped in gilt to the centre of the top.
The exact use of this box is unknown, it may have been for an instrument of some kind or possible a necklace although it doesn't have the finesse you would associate with a jewellery case. Popper to cover and gilt initials. Early to mid 20th century.
