A mahogany Jewellery Box with brass strapwork, corners and a flush campaign handle to the top.

The brass ware has a gilt lacquer which has worn nicely in places to tarnish black. The escutcheon has been replaced. The interior has a lift out tray which, along with the lid interior, is lined in red velvet. The tray has dividers to give four compartments and the middle is fitted to hold a fob watch. Below the tray is a simple, unlined storage area.

Its likely that this box was meant for use by a man and would be practical for an officer to store both his jewellery and papers etc. Brass straps on mahogany is always a good look and this is useful box which retains it key. Mid 19th Century.
