A brass bound, rosewood Campaign Box.

The rosewood is offset by the brass banding to the top and side corners and their is a blank, oval name plate to the top. The shape of the replaced escutcheon is also oval.

The box would originally have been fitted, probably as a small dressing or writing case. Any dividers or tray it may have once had have long since been removed and the box is now lined in blue sugar paper.

The lock suggests that it is French. It is not uncommon for dressing cases to have their fittings removed once the tools have gone missing as it gives them a new lease of life. Mid 19th Century.
