The 'Young head' transfer pattern to the border of this blue and white No. 1 Mess Plate shows two sailors with the instruments of war and a battleship in the background.
The whole has a rope border above and chain below. Although the plate is not marked the pattern is associated with the Bovey Pottery Company Ltd of Devon and was made for naval use. Circa 1900.
