An unmarked continental silver Travel Mug which was possibly part of a cased set.

The well shaped handle is carved ebony which offsets the silver nicely. As can be seen, it simply slots into a fitting to the side of the mug and will pack inside it for travel. It's interesting that it has a lid, which suggests the contents might have needed to be kept warm. We can guess that it might have been for shaving water, a hot drink or both. There are no marks to the mug but it is of good quality. Third quarter 19th century.
