A small walnut Campaign Mirror with an arched top.

The mirror works to a common action with the protective cover board forming the foot to stand the mirror. The looking glass can also be turned over so that the cover board, with the smaller round magnifying mirror to its interior, is on display and the large mirror becoming the foot. The mirror can also be hung from a brass ring to the back.

The larger, arched mirror has a bevelled edge but the magnifying mirror does not. Both are held in place by stringing to the edge. The larger mirror has just one band of wood whilst the round shaving mirror has the more typical 'sandwich' of three pieces of wood with the central piece ebonized. The 'bread' of the sandwich and the band to the larger mirror are painted white with the wood apparent to the inside edges.

All though a standard design for a campaign mirror, this examples stands out for its arched top which increases the work involved in making it from the wood to the mirror. The use of walnut is also a little different. Its a good, small size but also has a chunky feel whilst remaining tactile. Mid to late 19th Century.

Size packed for travel is given. The height set up is 6 1/2 inches or 16.5 cm.
