A camphor wood Chinese Export Campaign Chest with a rich colour.
The chest has a full length secretaire drawer with three internal drawers, a number of pigeon holes and replaced baize. The corners and stapwork to this chest are made from sheet brass which has been pinned in place whilst most Export chests have cast brass strapwork which is screwed down. The flush handles are typical of the China Trade. The colour of this chest also stands out. In places it looks like it may originally have been given a dark stain which over time has worn to a wonderful colour. The back boards are a little course in manufacturer but of course they weren't meant to be seen. It's possible that one or two may be historic replacements.
This is a good looking campaign chest with its colour a stand out point. Mid to late 19th Century.
