As its title implies this mahogany campaign chest was made in 1849.
The full date of 1st Jan 1849 was written in pencil to the underside of the top drawer divider by the cabinet maker. Aside from having an accurate date for its manufacture, this is a well made chest of smaller than standard proportions. The brass strap work and corners are fixed with steel screws and the overall quality is good. The drawer linings are ash and the stronger lock to the top right short drawer is a Bramah. It is uncommon to be able to date a campaign chest so accurately and this along with its size and colour is pleasing.
