A stained beech X Frame Folding Stool with a quilted green leather seat.

The use of the X frame as a folding action goes as far back as the Romans, if not further. It is a simple but effective method to reduce the size of a piece of furniture in one simple movement.

The legs are turned but left as square sections where there are joints. Their chunky size adds to the strength and stability of the stool.

Aside from its use as a stool, it can also be used as luggage stand or to put a tray on for use as a table. Late 19th Century.
