A round, walnut Coaching Table.
The simple, X-frame action of the Coaching Table makes it very practical as an occasional table. It can be folded up and stored when not in use but quickly set up when needed. The size of this one makes it practical as a lamp table or for using by the side of chair etc.
At some point it has had a bar added to the underside of each half of the top, under the hinges. This may been done to strengthen the top that split to one side. Although used for travel, the Coaching Table was very popular for domestic use in the 19th century and this example is a good small size. Late 19th Century.
