An Anglo-Indian, 3 part teak Cabinet on Stand.

The 3 parts of the Cabinet are graduated in size so that the top will pack inside the middle which in turn packs inside the stand. The top section has 4 drawers which are locked by a hinged board to the side much like a Wellington Chest. The top drawer is plain but the bottom 3 are fitted with various divided compartments. The middle cupboard section has 2 lugs to locate the top and a removable shelf which can be placed on its base board when the top section is packed inside. The middle section sits on 2 sledge feet which sit on the 8 steel, latch supports which are fitted to the corners of the stand. To pack the cabinet, these are turned parallel to the frame. Although the feet are solid blocks of wood, they are cut out to the inside, above the leg stretchers, to allow the middle section to fit within the stand frame. It is then supported by the tops of the block feet. The cabinet is well considered with panelled doors, moulded edges to the stand and brass banding. It is an unusual design that takes the format of a box on stand a step further. Late 19th Century.

Full size is given.
