A campaign Towel Rail made of mahogany.

This type of towel rail was retailed by a number of different companies including the Army & Navy CSL and Harrods. The design, like the piece of furniture, is simple but effective. The two end sections each have a foot and are united by the horizontal rails, which are removable. The rails have a tenon to each end to fit into a mortice joint on the end sections. The rails are numbered I to III to one side as is one end section. The top and bottom rails are fixed by a thumb bolt to each end. When they are fixed, the middle rail is also held in place.

With the need to hang towels and clothes to dry, this was a useful piece of kit for an office that breaks down to become easily portable. Late 19th Century.
