Mahogany Campaign Box
83410
A brass bound, mahogany Campaign Box.
There is no evidence to the interior of this box to suggest what its original purpose was. Typically such boxes were Dressing Cases and show signs of where dividers have been removed or trays have sat. It may be that it was simply made as a useful storage box for travel.
The top has a good, early 19th century, brass flush handle for carrying it when locked. The corners of the box each have three inset brass straps with one to the lid and two to the main box. The shaped brass escutcheon has been replaced and the unmarked lock has a working key. All the brass has a good, aged colour. The underside of the box has some replaced dark blue baize to prevent it scratching the surface it sits on.
A useful storage box. Early to mid 19th Century.
