A brass and glass Travel Inkwell made to a slightly different design to most.

The majority of this form of portable inkwell have the bolt positioned to the front of the round lid. This one is a little unusual in that the lid's fixing bolt is positioned between the round cap and the hinge. The cork or pad to the underside of the lid, to form a tight seal, is missing although its pin is visible.

This form of inkwell was made by a number of makers and to a variety of sizes. They work well in Writing Slopes which typically have two divided sections to hold inkwells to the desk tidy area. They could also be used independently. This inkwell can be considered larger than standard. Early to mid 19th century.
