A Set of 3 Travel Dice in leather and brass holder.

The brass holder is a clever way of holding the dice so that they don't get separated or lost. A frame of 3 brass squares meet to form a central triangle that has a column to the middle. The bottom of the column has a disc which over hangs each square. The top of the column also has a disc which is fitted to the column on a screw thread. Each dice sits within a brass square, unable to be removed until the top disc is unscrewed.

A small leather belt strap is fitted to the brass frame so that it can be attached to something else or held easier. The two discs also have leather to their centre and a serrated edge to make it easier to unscrew the top disc. The dice look to be made of an early type of plastic such as cellulose nitrate or celluloid.

These dice were probably made to easily carry on your person for gambling or playing games such as Cee-lo, a dice game that first became popular with Chinese American labourers at the end of the 19th century. The design is very effective, allowing you to see the dice whilst containing them together. Early 20th Century.

The height includes the strap.
