A pair of Anglo Indian Asian hardwood Travelling Candlesticks, likely to be made of padouk or a good quality member of the teak family.

The Brighton Bun is a wonderfully simple but clever design for travel lighting. One dish and one sconce have a screw fitting with the other two parts cut with threaded holes to receive them. This allows either the sconces to be fitted to make candlesticks or the two dishes to be screwed together to form a packing case for the two sconces.

This pair are a standard design made in India for the British either side of 1900. The dishes are a good size at 4 3/4 inches and a simple but robust shape with two tramlines turned to their edge to lift them slightly. The sconces are equally robust to withstand the rigour of travel but are turned to a pleasing urn shape. They have brass liners, one of which is replaced, to protect the wood from the candle flame. A good pair of treen travel candlesticks. Circa 1900.
