A mahogany and brass MacDonald Patent Shoe Rack.

This clever design hangs shoes by the underside of the heel on a serrated brass strip. When folded for travel, the serrated strip is protected from causing any damage by the bottom section butting up against it. When used overseas, aside from giving good storage to keep your tent tidy, it would also help prevent spiders etc. from crawling in to your shoes and giving you a nasty surprise when you put them on.

The majority of these racks were made by Platt's, who probably licensed the patent, and also added their name. This suggests that this one is slightly earlier in date as the pressed brass plaque only notes MacDonalds Patent. Late 19th Century.

The Crocodile Shoes sold separately.
