An oak boxed set of steel Navy Scales with brass pans and weights.
This form of portable scales is fairly common and were made with both oak and mahogany boxes. The scales are hand-held and, using the eight brass weights provided, would allow the user to quickly determine something's weight.
This set stand out because the simply made oak box is branded to the top with a broad arrow and a fouled anchor showing to have been used by the British Navy. Early to mid 19th Century.
