Secretaire Antique Campaign Chest by Ramsey
Secretaire Antique Campaign Chest by Ramsey
Sold
The lack of brass strap work and the moulded top edge of this mahogany secretaire campaign chest by Ramsey & Co. indicates its earlier age.
Ramsey are known to have been in existence at the beginning of the 19th century, undergoing a number of name changes through their history. Ramsey & Co. appears to be the earliest version of their name, used up to 1811. The illustrated label is fixed to the underside of the long secretaire drawer and there is also a stencil to one of the short drawers. A good, early campaign chest. The antique period is circa 1810.
