A Pot Cupboard is not an item of furniture that you might consider important whilst on campaign but perhaps it illustrates well the huge variety of items the British officer thought necessary for his well being. Certainly it would not have been commonplace to take one as we can tell from the lack of reference to them. Indeed, the only other we know of is also by Ross of Dublin and is shown in British Campaign Furniture, where it is noted as 'the only one so far recorded specifically made for travel'.
It is possible that Ross made them both as commission pieces but it also fits in well with their record of originality of design and inventory. As can be seen the legs simply unscrew from the cupboard. The cupboard is mahogany with a brass knob handle and makers plague to the top of the door giving the address of 9,10 & 11 Ellis's Quay. This cupboard is slightly different to the one in Brawer's book as can be noted from the turned legs. Circa 1860.
