A small leather hide Collar Box by Hill & Millard.
The box is made to a standard design with the lid held in place by a belt strap fixed to the back. The interior is lined in pigskin leather and the maker's details of 'Hill & Millard 7 Duncannon St. Trafalgar Sq.' are stamped to the lip to the bottom section. Although Hill & Millard are well known for their campaign furniture, they also made a lot of leather luggage.
This Collar Box has simple tooled lines to the edges by way of decoration and is much smaller than a standard collar box. Most Collar Boxes don't have a maker's mark and this one has a particularly good maker. Late 19th Century.
