A steel and brass Paper Knife in the form of a Naval Sword.

The sword's handle is decorated with a lion's head to the pommel and a foul anchor to the guard. The scabbard is gilt brass and painted black in parts, to resemble leather. The handle has a wire knot attached to it.

Paper knives in the form of swords were sold by many luxury goods shops in London at the turn of 1900. They were popular with retired members of the armed forces and this one, with its anchor decoration, would have been aimed at retired naval officers. Early 20th Century.
