A large, brass bound padouk Anglo Indian Trunk.

Everything about this trunk is taken a step further than most others. It is constructed from boards that are nearly one inch in thickness. It is heavily bound in wide brass straps and the brass corners to the top are very large with a decorative shape. The bolts used in the construction to hold the top's locating side rails, fix the lock's teeth plate and for the large hinges are capped to the top with brass discs to add decoration and strength. The carrying handles are big with large, shaped back plates.

The trunk has a plinth base with a bracket foot. The strap work is made of sheet brass as opposed to cast, with the corners following the shape of the subtle moulding to the top's edge and the straps to that of the plinth base. The top is secured by a pair of swing hooks and a large lock.

A good looking trunk that is a great size for a coffee table or the end of the bed. Mid 19th Century.
