Early Leather Briefcase

Early Leather Briefcase

Sold

A rustic but well-made leather Briefcase.

Its probable that this case was made by a saddler or country leather worker as opposed to an established luggage maker from the city. However, although it doesn't have the sophistication of a London case it is well made by someone who know their craft. There is a name stamped above the stap buckle but it is illegible.

The case has a single belt strap to the lid and a sewn rim to the edges for strength. The handle is padded. The interior is plain. A former owner's name of P. G. Bailey is written in ink to the interior and also the lid. The case is a good, dark colour and the name to the exterior is hard to see against the leather. There is a minor separation to the stitching to the back, top sides of the case. An interesting, 'country' version of a briefcase. Circa 1900.
